What is a Trojan Virus?
A Trojan virus is a type of malicious software that aims to mislead the users. It is also known as Trojan Horse or simply, Trojan. This word comes from the wooden horse which deceptively led to the fall of the city of Troy.
It often disguises itself as legitimate software. In itself, Trojan viruses are harmless. Its primary purpose is to be used by cybercriminals as gateways to your system. Trojans can spy on you when activated. It can collect valuable data and send it to a third-party server.
Modern variations of Trojans are even more dangerous. It can create backdoor access to your computer. Then, it can allow hackers to take full control of your computer. Additionally, Trojans may collect system information to uncover vulnerabilities. The data collected is used to develop ransomware, viruses, and other malicious software.
Trojan viruses are virtually undetectable in most systems. That is why it is crucial to install anti-malware tools for protection.

Spybot can remove applications which are monitoring your computer activities. It also offers Immunization Tools which add another layer of protection. Manuals scans are effective and thorough.
However, there’s a trade-off in speed as it is resource intensive. Updates are far in between as well. Every day, we see new threats. Patches should be available at regular intervals.
#3: SUPERAntiSpyware
SUPERAntiSpyware presents various options to the user. Just like Spybot, it is also an industry veteran. It aims to give you control for effective spyware, adware, trojan and other malware detection and removal. Its installation is quite fast and easy. SuperAntiSpyware’s System Investigator allows manual detection of malicious threats. Scanning is also quick and intuitive.
Unfortunately, active scanning takes a while to finish fully. Real-time protection is decent, but average at best. Spybot is an anti-malware utility which you can not consider as a full security suite. The interface is user-friendly. However, feels a little dated.

Emsisoft Emergency Kit may not be as advanced as the other tools, but it gets the job done. It provides essential Trojan scanning and removal function. One of its unique features is the ability to run as a portable app. You can save it on a thumb drive and run it on a computer without the need to install.
Additionally, command line options are available for pro users. Its BlitzBank feature deletes threats on boot-up. Emsisoft quarantines threats even before it targets security software.
On the other hand, it does not provide continuous protection. Emsisoft Emergency Kit is only suitable as a last resort solution for infected computers. It does deep scan well. However, it is not for everyday security use.
Final Thoughts
Trojan viruses are the first threat that will try to penetrate your operating system. It relies on the ability to fool you from installing it on your system. Some legitimate applications may even come bundled with Trojan Horse. Toolbars and other add-ons may also occur with potent versions of Trojan viruses.
Its ability to remain unnoticed for a long time makes it very threatening. Relying only on the essential protection of the operating system is apparently not enough. Trojan Horses increases your system’s vulnerability a hundredfold. It can create wider backdoors and security holes. More menacing applications such as viruses, ransomware, and rootkits.
Protecting your computer from Trojan viruses should be one of the first layers of protection. Trojan infections can open your system to a large number of threats. Hackers will take advantage of the vulnerabilities and security holes in the system. Having the best Trojan removal application is necessary prevention that you should have.

Yes, you should!
To protect your system you need to check for and remove adware from your Mac regularly.
Why?
Because adware removal is no longer an option. Despite popular misconceptions that Macs don’t get viruses, the opposite is true. In fact, the very first virus - or malware (malicious software) - was designed to infect Apple computers.
Trojan Mac Client
Today, the biggest threats to Mac users is adware - the largest category of malware aimed at Mac computers - and potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), also known as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
The latest AV-TEST reports highlight the threat of MacOS malware and PUPs over the last several years:
New types of macOS malware diagnosed:
- 57,603 in 2019 (as of November 21, 2019)
- 94,012 in 2018
- 222,774 since 2010
New PUPs identified:
- 2019: 48,077 (as of November 21, 2019)
- 2018: 79,079
- Since 2010: 806,592
According to Malwarebytes, adware and PUP have become pervasive. Even the Mac App Store has been overrun to the extent that certain classes of software - including antimalware and antivirus - cannot be trusted not to be malware.
That’s why you can’t afford to ignore adware.
To begin let’s explain what adware is and why you need to protect yourself against it.
What is Adware and Why is it Dangerous?
Designed to scam advertisers and search engines, adware works in two different ways:
- It places fraudulent ads on websites where they don’t belong to trick you into clicking on a link and taking you to a website you never intended to visit.
- It changes your default search engine and hijacks your searches to point to websites who pay the producers of adware affiliate revenue for referrals.
Many versions of adware contain hidden viruses that pose a risk to your data and privacy. However, most antivirus programs won’t detect adware. If they do, they’ll most likely flag it as a PUP without quarantining or removing it.
In most cases, adware is considered to be a PUP. Often bundled with other software, PUPs are adware, ransomware, or spyware unrelated to any program you downloaded. Generally irritating and unwanted, they may include advertising, pop-ups, and toolbars.
PUPs may also be downloaded unwittingly as fake antivirus or anti-adware apps, cleaning apps, or keyloggers (used to monitor the online activities of children or employees).
How do I Know if My Mac is Infected with Adware?
There are several ways to identify the presence of adware on your Mac including:
- Redirection to a seemingly genuine website with incredible offers that seem too good to be true. Small initial donations or payment typically end up as larger amounts as subscriptions to software or various websites - usually pornographic.
- Multiple pop-ups launched simultaneously after clicking on a link advertising software updates or notifying you of the expiration of your software license - even if you don’t use that software.
- More ads than usual appearing in search results and on web pages that you don’t usually expect to see, including banners and advertisements embedded in the text as links.
- Your homepage is replaced with another website without your knowledge.
- Toolbars appear unexpectedly in your browser.
- Your Mac performance seems to be slower than normal.
If you see or experience any of these symptoms, you need to take action.
What is the Most Common Adware for Macs?
Adware appears as a Trojan, or Trojan horse, one of the most dangerous types of malware. Often piggybacking on another program, it promises one thing; but delivers another, tricking you into unwittingly installing something you never intended to. These include:
- Intrusive banners
- Pop-ups
- New toolbars
- New plugins
